Tactical Mechanical Tourniquet (TMT) Transcript

The Tactical Mechanical Tourniquet (TMT) is designed for rapid control of life-threatening extremity hemorrhage. Developed using lessons learned from military medicine, the TMT tourniquet is engineered for ease of application and effective bleeding control in emergency situations. The TMT requires minimal training and is designed to help control severe bleeding from arm or leg injuries.

One-Handed Tourniquet Application Instructions

First, remove the Tactical Mechanical Tourniquet from the package.

Step 1

Hold the end of the strap by the white time-label tab and allow the TMT to fall open with the word “Pull” facing away from you.

Place the TMT tourniquet around the injured extremity high and tight above the wound.

Step 2

Pull the time-label tab until the upper strap separates from the lower strap.

Step 3

Grip the strap close to the speed buckle. Firmly pull upward, outward, and away from the body, then downward in a quick ratcheting motion.

Repeat this process until the Tactical Mechanical Tourniquet is snug around the extremity.

Step 4

Adjust or rotate the TMT on the extremity for easier access to the torsion bar.

Twist the torsion bar until bleeding stops and no pulse is present below the injury.

Step 5

Lock the torsion bar into the retaining clip. Secure any excess strap by wrapping it around the extremity and tucking it under itself.

Finally, write the time of application on the white time-label tab.

Tourniquet Removal Instructions

To release or remove the Tactical Mechanical Tourniquet:

  • Unwrap any excess strap material.

  • Apply positive pressure to the torsion bar.

  • Apply upward pressure to the retaining clip and push the torsion bar out.

  • Unlock the speed buckle.
