How to Apply an Emergency Bandage

An emergency bandage is designed to help control bleeding and protect wounds during medical emergencies. In this training video, we review how to properly apply an emergency trauma bandage in three simple steps.

Emergency bandages are commonly used in:

  • trauma kits,

  • IFAKs,

  • first aid kits,

  • tactical medical kits,

  • and emergency preparedness applications.

Step 1 — Open the Emergency Bandage

Open the exterior package and remove the emergency bandage from the clear sterile packaging.

If necessary, prepare the wound by removing visible debris before applying the dressing.

As you open the emergency trauma bandage, you will notice that the bandage remains secure and does not fully unroll due to the integrated Stop and Go thread design.

Step 2 — Apply the Bandage to the Wound

Place the cotton wound dressing pad directly over the wound site.

To increase compression and improve bleeding control, insert the bandage through the pressure bar while wrapping. After passing through the pressure bar, wrap the bandage in the opposite direction to apply additional pressure to the injury.

Proper pressure dressing application can help control severe bleeding in emergency situations.

Step 3 — Secure the Emergency Trauma Dressing

Wrap the emergency bandage tightly around the wound and injured limb.

Once secure, fasten the bandage using the attached closure bar.

Ensure the dressing remains snug and properly positioned over the wound.

Emergency Bandage Uses

Emergency trauma bandages are commonly used for:

  • severe bleeding injuries,

  • lacerations,

  • traumatic wounds,

  • range injuries,

  • vehicle trauma kits,

  • tactical medicine,

  • and emergency preparedness.

Proper wound care and hemorrhage control training are recommended before emergency use.
